Csergezán, Pál Wildboards in the forest

Csergezán, Pál: Wildboards in the forest
Private collection Hungary

Description

Pál Csergezán was born in this year 100 yers ago. He's true home was the forest, his true friends were trees, birds, wild boars, wild animals, and horses. His whole life was devoted to the love of animals and the worship of nature," reads the website of the foundation that bears his name. Csergezán studied at the graphic arts department of the College of Fine Arts from such great masters as Jenő Barcsay, Sándor Ék and György Kádár. He was drafted at the beginning of World War II and went to the front. He discovered Russian nature painting during his three years as a prisoner of war. Although he also produced reproduced graphics and book illustrations, his art is not really known for these. But about his excellent animal paintings, such as "Wild boars in the forest". In his work, a group of wild boars is marching towards a clearing. They are probably looking for food, but they won't be able to find a bite in the snow-covered forest. Csergezán presents the "life" of animals with excellent artistic care, faithfully, as he often observed them while walking in nature. Not only their body structure, but also their movements and habits. His picture, made with mixed techniques, well reflects the atmosphere of the winter forest, the unusual sight of black animals emerging from the thicket. Csergezán, while capturing the scene realistically in its details, successfully avoided the exaggerated, kitsch style of the hunting scenes. We consider him one of the best animal painters because of his harmonious composition, sure drawing skills and light brushwork.
